The human race is scattered across the universe, and a different aristocratic house leads each planet. Audiences would miss out on a fantastic sci-fi tale if Dune's complex story is not doggedly followed, so let’s break down the story of Dune.ĭune is set thousands of years in the future, and, evidently, the world has only gotten more complicated. However, when understood properly, as is the case for Villeneuve's latest take, Dune is a touching and thought-provoking allegory wrapped within a compelling narrative. The lavish world-building and plot of Dune are as nuanced as they are complex, leading to much confusion following David Lynch's failed Dune adaptation of 1984.
